CAHEC Advances Affordable Housing in the Southeast with Three New Properties

CAHEC has successfully closed on three affordable housing properties in the Southeast during the second quarter of 2025, adding a combined total of 146 units to the region’s affordable housing stock. This initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to addressing the critical need for affordable housing through both new construction and the rehabilitation of existing properties.

Among the developments, Lily Gardens in Staunton, Virginia, introduces 50 units designed for families across various income levels, featuring modern amenities and community spaces. In Florence, Alabama, the Gateway Double Creek property’s 48 units have been updated to meet the needs of families earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income, a market with a proven demand for affordable housing. Similarly, Renaissance Commons in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, has undergone upgrades to continue serving seniors with 48 units, reflecting the ongoing demand for affordable senior housing in the area.

Greg Mayo, CAHEC’s Vice President of Acquisitions & Risk, highlighted the importance of these projects in fulfilling the organization’s mission to strengthen communities through affordable housing. These developments not only provide essential housing but also preserve the character of existing communities, showcasing CAHEC’s role in fostering collaborative partnerships across the Southeast.

The need for affordable housing continues to grow, and CAHEC’s efforts in the second quarter of 2025 represent a pivotal contribution to meeting this demand. By focusing on both the creation and preservation of affordable housing, CAHEC is making a tangible difference in the lives of many families and seniors in the Southeast.
